The leaves and fruits of the family Lauraceae (origin: Asia) are a source for oil, while their leaves may also be used as a spice. The fossilized laurel leaf pictured, like all other plants, proves that laurels have not undergone evolution. Laurels that lived 54-37 million years ago have the same features as those alive today.
